Are you saved?

What is Salvation?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, b≠ut have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

Salvation is the deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God's conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.

Salvation is available in Jesus alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12) and is dependent on God alone for provision, assurance, and security.

What is a Plan for Salvation?

  1. Realize your condition as a sinner:
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23).
  2. Realize your penalty for sin is death:
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23).
  3. Realize you can do nothing to work off your sin debt:
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost. (Titus 3:5).
  4. Realize that Christ died for you, to pay your sin debt. He was the only one who God deemed righteous enough to receive His sacrifice:
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21).
  5. Believe that Christ died, was buried, and rose from the dead:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9).
  6. Realize that salvation is a free gift, apart from any works that you do:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
  7. Realize the moment you trust Christ, you have salvation and it can never be lost:
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)

How do I receive Salvation?

  1. Admit you are a sinner and need forgiveness. (Romans 10:9)
  2. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave.
  3. Through prayer (talking to God respectfully like you talk to anyone else whom you appreciate dearly), and confess that Jesus Christ is the only way to God, and commit to live for Him for the rest of your life.
  4. Thank Him for what He has done for you, and what He will be doing for you.

A Sample Prayer to Receive Salvation

In the Holy Bible,

Romans 10:9 states that "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Romans 10:10 "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

  • The Sinner's Prayer, simply put, is a way of declaring to God that you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.
  • It is not an incantation nor are they "magical" words that result in salvation.
  • It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us.
  • If you confess that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ you will, by Grace, be Saved.

Here is A Sample Prayer of Salvation

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave to give me life. I know You are the only way to God. So now I want to quit disobeying You and start living for You. Please forgive me, change my life and show me how to know You. In Jesus' name. Amen

If you prayed that prayer and meant it in your heart then congratulations! If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you can be sure He heard you. The Bible says, "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13). You have just begun a relationship with God and you will definitely spend eternity in heaven with Him!

Now, the next step is to find a local Bible Believing Church and grow in your faith. Tell the Pastor or other ministers that you have become a Christian and that you would like to be baptized and have fellowship with them.

What is My Next Step?

If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you can be sure He heard you. The Bible says, "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13). You have just begun a relationship with God and you will definitely spend eternity in heaven with Him!

Now, here are 4 essential steps to move you forward towards spiritual growth. Though simple, they are vital to building your relationship with the Lord.

Step 1 Read your Bible daily. Find a Bible reading plan that's right for you. A plan will keep you from missing anything God has written in His Word. The easiest way to truly "grow up" in the faith is to make Bible reading a priority.

Step 2 Attend church services regularly. The Bible encourages us to meet together regularly with other believers (Hebrews 10:25). This is also fundamental to spiritual growth. Find a Bible teaching church that's right for you.

Step 3 Get involved in a ministry group. Most churches offer small group and ministry opportunities. Pray and ask God where you should "plug in." It's the people who really "get plugged in" that find their purpose and soar in their walk with Christ. Sometimes this takes a little time, but most churches offer classes or counseling to help you find the place that's right for you. Don't get discouraged if the first thing you try doesn't seem to fit.

Step 4 Pray daily. Prayer is simply talking to God. You don't have to use big fancy words. There are no right and wrong words. Just be yourself. Give thanks to the Lord daily for your salvation. Pray for others in need. Pray for direction. Pray for the Lord to fill you daily with His Holy Spirit. There is no limit to prayer. You can pray with your eyes closed or open, while sitting or standing, kneeling or lying on your bed, anywhere, anytime. So begin to make prayer a part of your daily routine.

Salvation Quiz:

Do you know what "salvation" means?

(select your response to answer the question)

I can get into heaven by:

1. Obeying the Ten Commandments

Option #1 is incorrect.  Explanation:  The Law cannot save you.  Here's what the Bible says:

"Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." Romans 3:19-28

2. Gifts to Charity

Option #2 or #7 are incorrect.  Explanation: Charitable gifts, money, or giving donations cannot save you.  The Bible states:

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" Titus 3:5

3. Going to Church

Options #3 or #4 are incorrect. Explanation: Unbelievers also go to church, and there are no "brownie points" for simply filling the pews.  This cannot save you.

The Bible states:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."We cannot be saved by works, regardless of how good or well intended.  God saves us by His grace (mercy). Ephesians 2:8-9

4. Church Membership

5. Confirmation

Options #5 or #6 Explanation: These things could never save you.  They are man-made doctrines and are not taught in the Bible.  God says:

"But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Matthew 15:9

6. Penances

Options #5 or #6 Explanation: These things could never save you.  They are man-made doctrines and are not taught in the Bible.  God says:

"But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Matthew 15:9

7. Tithing

Option #2 or #7 are incorrect.  Explanation: Charitable gifts, money, or giving donations cannot save you.  The Bible states:

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" Titus 3:5

8. Born to Christian parents

Option #8 Explanation: Your parents cannot get you into heaven.  The Bible states:

"They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God" Romans 9:8

"But as many as received Him (Christ), to them gave He power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12, 13.

9. Good Works

Option #9 Explanation: Good works cannot save anyone, no matter how well intended.  God saves us by His grace (mercy) and not by anything that we did on our own.  The Bible states:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."  Ephesians 2:8-9.

10. Alliance with any god

Option #10 is incorrect.  Explanation: It is impossible to get to heaven by any other means other than through the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His redemption of our sins.  Salvation is a free gift that only He can provide, to all that believe on His name.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

"He that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son.  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son." 1 John 5:10, 11

11. None of the Above

Option #11 Explanation: Congratulations! You are Correct!  Jesus Christ is the Only way to salvation.
